Henry has
made some big advances in the last week. He has finally taken notice of
his
hands and he’ll put them in his mouth and taste them and
stare at them every so
often. Mommy and Daddy are still swaddling him but every now and then
will
leave Henry’s hands out so he can do what he wants with them.
He’s been
starting to feel toys and grasp a rattle for a couple minutes and shake
it a
bit.
Henry has
been flashing grins more and more nowadays. His favorite game now is
“stick out
your tongue at me!” Henry will take turns with Mommy and
Daddy and just give
the biggest smile.
Henry
finally slept in his crib without a bassinet last night. Until then,
Mommy and
Daddy would put the bassinet in the crib, but Henry assured them he had
no
problems sleeping without it. He is learning how to go to bed at a
particular
time now. Mommy and Daddy are knocking on wood that he keeps this habit.
This little
guy loves to look around now. He doesn’t like laying on his
stomach much
because there is not much to look at. His favorite places are over
Mommy’s
shoulder or being held facing out so he can see what everyone else sees.
The
stroller is slowly becoming Henry’s friend as of late. Mommy
and Daddy took him
for a 15 minute stroll yesterday and he seemed to enjoy it.
Henry is 3
months old! Mommy can't believe it. He's getting so big and he's been
doing new
things every week. He's really good at holding his head up when Mommy
holds him
over her shoulder and he smiles more at Mommy and Daddy. He is happiest
after
his diaper is changed on the changing table and Mommy will say "Who's a
good boy?!" and she’ll pause and gasp and then
she’ll say
"Henry!!!" and he gets this huge smile. Granted, it doesn't work
every time but it's something that works the best to get a smile out of
him. He's
also getting more talkative and will respond back and forth with
noises. He has
also started playing games like sticking out his tongue when Daddy does.
Henry is
still going back and forth with his sleeping. Some nights he will grace
Mommy
and Daddy with 4-5 hours of sleep in a row and then do 2 hours and eat
and
another 2 hours and eat. Then other nights he'll wake up every 2 hours.
The
last couple nights he has had some rice cereal in some milk. The first
time he
was fed he had one of those special bottles with a bigger nipple. Well,
he
ended up eating 4 oz of it within 2 minutes and I think he got a tummy
ache
from doing that and he cried for about 45 minutes. So the next night a
regular
nipple was used with poked holes and that worked a lot better. He slept
for 4
hours after that, not sure if that was a coincidence or not. Mommy and
Daddy
will find out as they will try this every time he goes to bed.
Henry used
to eat constantly during the day. Mommy and Daddy have taken care of
that now
because they get him to nap for 2-3 hours at a time. The only problem
is that
he only naps well when he's in his swing. If he is put anywhere else
it's a
half hour nap tops. No comments on a Plan B yet. Henry is still
swaddled when
he sleeps. Mommy and Daddy swaddle him as snug as possible...if he
breaks out
of it he'll wake right up. LOL

Henry
experienced his first rain! He didn’t get to play in it but
looked outside at
the wet yard.
Henry is 2 months old! How does Sir Henry celebrate? He visited the doctor to get a checkup and some shots. Poor little guy. Henry is now 13 lbs and 24 ½ inches long. He is growing remarkably well considering he was born 3 weeks early. Henry got three shots and he, of course, cried but he got over it within 10 minutes and was very calm on the ride home.
Henry is babysat for the first time. Granny Suz and Grandpa babysat Henry for a few hours while Mom and Dad got a break to go to a book sale.
Henry has been sleeping in a bassinet since he was born but now he is getting almost too long to fit in it. So we did a baby step – haha – and put the bassinet in the crib and he slept normally. Hooray! We’ll try this for a few days and then try to go without it.
Thank goodness, Henry just loves a bath. He looks a little confused half the time but I think he likes it a lot. Mom and Dad need to get some rubber ducky toys soon.
Mom has officially proclaimed that Don McLean (yes, the man who sings “Bye, Bye, Miss American Pie") can settle Henry down when he cries when nothing else will. Just singing that song and swaying Henry relaxes him. We’ve tried some other music and it takes longer for him to calm down.
Henry starts Size 1 diapers! Mom and Dad have gone through almost every brand of diapers and they are quickly learning which are their favorites and what aren’t. So far Luvs isn’t their cup of tea (too many wet laps) and Huggies are the most commonly bought because they haven’t encountered any major mishaps and they are relatively cheap.
Henry has his first doctor visit. He weighed in at 9 lbs. 8 oz. and 23 inches for his height. He is growing like a weed and his cheeks are filling out like a chipmunk.
Henry is one month old!
Happy
New Year for Henry! Henry wakes up Mom to eat just
before
Henry celebrates his very 1st Christmas out of the womb! Mom and Dad have been very grateful for this beautiful gift this year. Henry received many wonderful presents from all of his relatives. His favorite is something Mom and Dad calls his “magic blanket”. It’s a wonderfully soft blanket with blue bears all over it. It helps keep him warm and lulls him to sleep when Mom and Dad put him in the bassinet.
Henry finally came home from the hospital. He had to stay a couple days longer than the standard 48 hours because he had some jaundice that the pediatrician had to check on. This took a couple weeks for it to fully go away but Mom and Dad were naturally worried yet joked about their “little yellow son”. The pets of the Gehl household welcomed Henry with no problem. Sadie is always curious and always wants to lick Henry and the cats (Jane and Ike) could really care less about Henry at this point.
